There are many different facts about major league baseball. The most widely known fact would probably be about Babe Ruth and his amazing victory. But there are some more facts that just aren’t that much discussed. Like the fact that baseball was based off stick and ball games back in Colonial times. Or about the first hats ever used on the field had green tented, fabric covered visors that helped block out the sun? The first uniforms were all the same, blue pantaloons, and white flannel shirts. Did you know that the only way players could be identified back then, was by the color of their socks? It’s strange to think that baseball had such humble beginnings.

There are many different facts out there about baseball, but the fact is, even if it’s still the number one game in the United States, our “national pastime,” it’s slowly being overrun by other things, like video games. Video games are one of the major things that are keeping kids and adults inside and out of the “game” so to speak.

There was a time when there were millions of fans piling out of their homes to go and watch a game live, and while those numbers are still the same, our population growth has gone up, and those numbers have yet to increase. One of the main reasons for this is the location of the major league stadiums in high population centers. The travel, traffic, parking and stadium capacities (not to mention the high price of tickets, refreshments and memorabilia) are all factors in the attendance not increasing with the population.

There are so many alternatives available today that allow us to be fans without the expense of going to a live game. Sports channels and the internet both make baseball convenient for people who can’t attend a live game. Also, the Virtual Fantasy Baseball and their virtual teams takes armchair athletes to new levels of participation.

So here are some facts that are shocking and the harsh truth. Fact, more kids prefer to play the video game rather than the real game. Fact, obesity has increased over the years due to inactivity. Fact, most parents don’t care what their children do so long as it’s quiet and out of their hair and not illegal. Fact, most people don’t see the harm in letting children play continued hours of games until it too late. Fact, a simple “no” can go a long way.
